More first time knits frilly scarf…

Hello lovely peeps, makers and creators, as promised I said that I would keep you up to date with my knitting progress and here it is… the frilly scarf knitted with Katia sole scarf yarn.

I have to say that when I knitted it, I had been knitting less than a month and was thrilled that I was able to complete it quickly and easily without any help except for the cast off.

My mother-in-law who is a much more experienced knitter than I am was so thrilled by the scarf, that she had to buy some scarf yarn there and then. Since then she has knitted it and come back for more.

This is a great present for any occassion and mothers day is coming up too… at £3.25 a ball you cant go wrong… 2 balls is all you need and you get a free pattern with your purchase too.  You can buy this yarn from: http://www.tigerlilymakes.co.uk/products-page/katia-knitting-yarns-supplies/page/2/

Stop Press!!! Beautiful handmade gift from a talented designer…

Hello lovely peeps, makers and creators, today I just simply have to share with you the wonderful work of the amazingly talented Skye German.  For those of you who don’t know I am an accredited arts & crafts tutor and used to travel the country demonstrating a whole host of crafts and running workshops for a well know craft company. When I opened the felt boutique… I found I had a lot of surplus stash, tools and equipment.

Not wanting this to go to waste I set about selling my personal items on Ebay and this believe it or not is how I met the amazing Skye German. Skye was the winning bidder for my craft stash and we immediately struck a rapport via our email communiction.  That chance meeting has led to a very special friendship that has been ongoing for about 2 years now.

Skye is a wonderful person whom is a full time carer and designs and creates wonderful things to sell around that… Skyes designs and creations are all very besoke and unique and are very popular with her audience.

Pictured above is one of Skyes amazing designs which she customised especially for me… I received it this week and immediately fell in love with it, it now takes pride of place on our sofa.

I feel so blessed and lucky to have met such wonderfully kind and generous friends in my industry sector.

Thank you so much Skye for your wonderful gift, I absolutely adore it.

Please support our talented crafters by buying from the UK.  You can contact Skye for custom orders and be safe in the knowledge that not only will the design be superb but the quality of workmanship will be excellent… as well as having a wide range of accessories to choose from.

This design was all done by hand, no machines used at all!! Using the famous Harris Tweed.

Lily’s Vintage Style File Vintage Shoes

Hello lovely peeps, makers and creators, well you may or may not remember that before Christmas I would be sharing with you my passion for vintage style and how that sometimes can influence and inspire my designs.

That time has now come and the first vintage find I want to share with you are the wonderfully styled vintage style shoes that I purchased from Hetty Spagetty

Hetty Spagetty has a wonderful range of vintage style clothing, shoes and accessories in their beautifully styled boutique. For me I just fell in love with Hetty’s range as its holds everything I love about the 40′s and 50′s… a classic time resistant style that offers full glamour without being over the top.

These wonderful shoes are pictured with my Nerisa Marissa felt handbag and I feel that the two compliment each other beautifully.

My first time knits continued…

Hello lovely peeps, makers and creators, well I promised I would keep you up to date on my new hobby and knitting progress.

So pictured above is a basic scarf that I have knitted for my son as a little extra stocking filler.

I wouldn’t have thought that it would be something that he would be interested in, but it came about after he saw me knitting and took a great interest.  Being a typical 19 year old he came straight to the point and asked me if I was any good!! Lol to which I replied “I am doing okay” “well then” he said “you can knit me something” and so I did.

The scarf itself is a basic garter stitch and was a free pattern with a ball of Patons fab and chunky yarn that I bought. It was a really good way to get me started and practice whilst being able to complete something from start to finish.

The scarf was a big hit with my son and so hopefully he will get much enjoyment out of wearing it.

Jacqui Thompson Heartfelt Designs and our featured designer

Jacqui Thompson has always enjoyed being busy crafting from a very early age – play would take the form of making something, and to this day she still believes that crafting is like playtime for adults, with the lovely bonus of having an item to enjoy at the end of playtime!
Early makes would be handmade knitted or sewn clothes for dolls, followed by woollen knits in her twenties, and then when her own children came along the  plastic toy
pile was supplemented with knitted clowns and animals.

For a few years handmade cards were the norm for family and friends, then crafting took a sewing turn into creating items for a Christmas stall with a similar minded friend (often over a glass of wine!). Once the sewing machine was out again it never got put away – and many clothes were up-cycled into heart garlands, cushions and lavender filled accessories for summer craft stalls, culminating in winning the best dressed stall at the Lichfield Medieval market in 2008.

Having always had a go at crafts that appeared do-able, the idea of learning new skills at workshops then inspired Jacqui to try her hand at felt-making. At Tigerlily Makes the tuition given by Lisa was excellent and a few courses later Jacqui was making her own style of felted accessories to wear and for the home and so www.heartfeltdesigns.me.uk
was created.

More than anything though Jacqui just loves the whole making experience. So much so, that when Lisa invited her to share some of her textile experience and join her to offer textile workshops at the Tigerlily Makes studio she was happy to accept – after all it was like being asked to come out and play all over again.

To see a list of Jacqui’s courses just visit our website http://www.tigerlilymakes.co.uk/textile-courses/

My new hobby and first time knits…

Wonderfully warm greetings to you this mid festive season… well as promised on  our fanpage this blog post is all about my new hobby knitting.

Well I have wanted to kearn to knit for a very long time and have had a go here and there but never been successful… but with the dawn of a new year I was determined to bring in the new year having learnt the basics of a new hobby in my case knitting.  I had always been put off learning to knit as many of the patterns looked very complicated and often there are no basic knitting insturctions to get you started.

Luckily for me our knitting Tutor Lesley was on hand to take me through the basic steps and it is testamount to Lesley’s ability to teach anyone and I mean anyone (including me) that has seen me past 2 knitting projects and now I am onto a 3rd and soon to be 4th!!!

Now lets not get carried away here, we are only talking about basic scarves and snoods, but this is a great step forward for me, as I have managaed to cast on, knit and cast off without any further supervision from my tutor.  Again this is down to the great teaching skill of Lesley and the confidence she has instilled in me that I can do it and I am. I plan to practice my basic skils and improve on them over this coming year and sharing my expereinces along the way.

I dont know about you lovely creative peeps, but my hands just have to be doing something all the time… so this way I can create lovely felted things by day for my day job and be doing something creative but relaxing in the evenings.

Pictured above is the progress of a current scarf project I am working on using the lovely Noro wools we have had in the shop for over a year now… and finally I am getting to use them!!  Yay!!

Thank you so much Lesley for giving me my knitting wings :)
